As August wanes, don’t let thoughts of fall winds and bulky sweaters get you down. Keep up the vitality of summer and find a cure for those late summer blues with an upcoming charity run in the D.C. area. Pull out your sneakers, sign up for a race, and start training today for any of these fun and worthwhile local runs:
The Rave Run Washington DC – Aug. 17 (date may change, benefiting organization TBD)
What other run lets you race through the nighttime streets of Washington D.C. surrounded by stunning lights, pumping music, and hundreds of other neon-clothed racers? Introducing the Rave Run of Washington D.C., an adrenaline-filled 5K race starting at 8:30 pm from RFK Stadium on August 17, followed by a late-night music-filled after-party.
Whether you choose to walk or run this 5K, organized by the Resource Foundation for Women Veterans, Inc., your steps help to support the country’s strong military women battling against domestic violence. Join the National Sisterhood walk from 7:00am-3: 00 pm on Sept. 7. Refreshments and vendors will be available.
Grub for Good- 5K Charity Fun Run –Sept. 10
Join Rock Recovery’s Grub for Good 5K Fun Run on September 10, starting at Potomac River Running, to support those struggling with food and body image issues and to help fight the stigma surrounding eating disorders. Then head over to the nearby Cleveland Park restaurant for after-the-run food and drink specials, raffle prizes, socializing, and more.
On Sept. 14th 5k Fun Run/Walk kicks off our Stonebridge Fall Fest at the beautiful new Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, VA. The racecourse is throughout the Center and will be followed by a post-celebratory snack furnished by Wegman’s. Timed but not chipped race, and prizes will be awarded by VA Runner. Stay after and enjoy music and entertainment, and Healthy snacks provided by Wegman’s.
Fall Fest Exhibitors & Entertainment 11 am to 7 pm
Stay after and mingle with our exciting group of exhibitors, and view a family Movie 7 pm Jumbo-Tron. Wegmans will provide freshly made popcorn for your enjoyment- please bring a chair or blanket for your viewing comfort. A portion of the race proceeds goes to 501-C3 Charity “Serve Our Willing Warriors”.
Stomp Out Sickle Cell Walk –Sept. 14
On Sept. 14 come to the 7th annual Stomp Out Sickle Cell 5K Walk at Freedom Plaza from 9:00am-noon. All proceeds benefit the Howard University Center for Sickle Cell Disease and Faces of Our Children, Inc., a company dedicated to raising awareness, and funding the research, for combating sickle cell disease worldwide.
Color in Motion 5K –Sept. 14
Show up to the Color in Motion 5K at 9:00 am September 14 dressed all in white; run, walk or jog down the course as explosions of bright colors are thrown at you; have the time of your life and help to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. It’s that simple.
MS Capital Challenge Walk –Sept. 21-22
Challenge yourself with this two day, 50-mile walk from Northern Virginia to Capitol Hill to raise money and awareness for the fight against multiple sclerosis. Gather sponsors and join the cause on September 21-22.
Stop Cancer Now 5K Run/Walk -Sept. 22
Help the Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund, in its mission to reduce the risks of cancer for children and adults everywhere, by signing up for this 5K walk or run (or even by participating virtually). The 10:00 am 5K will take place along the banks of D.C.’s B&O Canal Trail on September 22.
