This summer, DC Life Magazine explores lesser-known boutiques in the district. We’ll feature our favorite findings here, once a week.

Beneath the clutter and shuffle of M Street in Georgetown lie Wink, a boutique curated for both work and play. Right now, Wink is sizzling with all things summer- from glittery TKEE sandals to eccentric Clover Canyon prints. The store has been in its M street location since it opened 10 years ago, but the stairwell leading customers to its downstairs entrance is often overlooked. Don’t be mistaken- Wink is not lacking in customers (in fact, many of its customers are loyal DC locals), but it does manage to escape the craziness that can envelop their upper-level neighbors, such as Anthropologie and H&M. As a result, stepping into Wink feels more like a trip to your best friend’s closest than a sweaty shopping trip. The saleswomen are friendly, but not pushy, coffee table books float around the racks and the owner’s dog (an adorable black westie) is often prancing around as you try on clothes. With an array of pieces from well-known brands such as Mara Hoffman, BB Dakota, and J Brank, prices at Wink are those of a typical boutique- ranging from J.Crew to  Intermix. Wink also carries several lesser-known brands, such as Anine Bing and Keepsake, to help it stand out in the clothing haven of Georgetown. We find Wink best for fun silky tops and a great pair of jean shorts or pants. So next time you’re on M Street, don’t forget the hidden gem that lies below. And if you’re feeling too hot to even venture outside, Wink offers personal styling and closet cleanouts. Here is a link to Wink’s website:
