Somehow the holiday season is already upon us, but we’re certainly not complaining! Trying to download all of those great holiday classics, but feel like you’re forgetting one? Well, here’s a list of some of our all-time favorites:
The Nightmare Before Christmas: The perfect film to help you transition from Halloween to the holidays. The spooky animation and renowned storyline have been a classic for years. The incredibly talented Tim Burton produced the film and, much in line with his style, the result was a fantastical, haunting masterpiece. Do be aware that though this film is rated PG, the scary skeleton characters and dark themes may frighten children!
Elf: A hilarious classic starring Will Ferrell will certainly get you and your family in the holiday spirit. Ferrell, as one of Santa’s elves, Journeys to New York City to meet his real father and brings Christmas joy to everyone around him along the way. Kids and adults alike will love this one!
The Polar Express: This beautiful film, based on the popular children’s book, follows the story of young boys and girls on a train headed to the North Pole. The fantastical events and interactions between the characters will keep you and any younger ones entertained. It’s definitely a great movie to watch huddled under blankets on a cold night with some hot chocolate and popcorn.
Love Actually: Nothing could be better than spending a night in watching this film, while surrounded by your family. The multi-plot story of love and friendship in this movie will surely remind you to value your loved ones and make phone calls the ones who cannot watch with you. Plus, the film’s setting during wintry Christmastime will only help you look forward to the holidays more!
Home Alone: Who could think of writing a classics holiday film list without the cherished Home Alone? The beloved story of how young Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin in 1990, hilariously entertains himself at home while his family rushes back to Chicago after accidentally leaving him on their way to Paris will never cease to be the perfect Christmas movie. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which includes the original cast, is also a great holiday film to try!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas – The 1966 Short and 2000 Film: Both adaptations of Dr. Seuss’ famous book are perfect for this holiday season. This 1966 short illustrates the beautiful significance of Christmas through delicate animation and adorable dialogue. The 2000 comedy, film version also does a wonderful job of giving life to Dr. Seuss’ text, but you’ll definitely have to like Jim Carrey, who plays Grinch, to appreciate this film.
A Charlie Brown Christmas: The timeless and incredibly touching TV short from 1965 should be watched every year. From Linus’s adorable explanation of the meaning of Christmas to the animation that will evoke nostalgia from you and wonder from the children, I cannot think of a better movie for this holiday season. If you watch any of these, make sure you try to make time for this one!
